Booklet project :)

I had various ideas for my booklet, since it was so open-ended. However it was so open-ended to the point where I felt overwhelmed with how much I could make.

At first I thought of making a booklet based on old-wives’ tales and stuff, since I find myself fascinated by so many beliefs that may or may not be true. Then I thought of legends to illustrate, or just a story to make up and illustrate myself. However with 5 other classes I figured I would not have enough time to do so (especially with so much animation to do).

Finally I decided to do something a bit more personal: An alphabet. Every letter of the alphabet stood for a word that would be important to me – I would then talk more about it.

So here you go:

Here is my cover :)

Here is my content :)

So there’s a huge controversy around this topic. Should we legalize prostitution or not? Would legalizing it make it safer for women, or easier for pimps to push the limits?

Sort of the same idea behind “legalizing marijuana” or not.

Still. I stand by my opinion. It should never be okay. You can argue all you want with me, but women should never be treated like objects that can be sold or traded.

Anyway enough of my rant, here’s my final poster design I showed today:

And here it is in its setting:

It’s in East Hastings. Where most of this happens.

Thanks everyone for your feedback! It was very insightful!

Second project: Illustrator

I won’t lie, I’m having some troubles brainstorming a good topic to talk about.

However, I stumbled upon the news regarding legalizing prostitution in Vancouver “for” the Winter Olympics. At first I was like, Whaaatttt that’s ridiculous! No way! Etc etc.

So I did some research. Did you guys know that prostitution was abolished by the Women’s Christian Temperance Union in 1873? They were also responsible for the banning of drugs and high-control of alcohol.

Now imagine a country that has drugs and prostutition legalized and no alcohol restrictions. What do you see? I see a scence from the Pirates of the Caribbean where anyone can do anything and hell, even killing is legal. Doesn’t that sound like a kid without parents to look over him? Imagine what this kid would grow up to be like. Certainly not a respectable young man who earns an honest living.

SO WHYYYYYYYYY VANCOUVERRRR. First your inukshuk logo which bothers me because the only inukshuk I’ve seen are the ones made by the sea, not the huge ones you’d find – I don’t know – IN THE NORTHWEST TERRITORIES (Read: NOT BC). And don’t even get me started on your mascots for the 2010 Olympics. I just… won’t go there. (exceptforthefactthattheylooklikepokemonormascotsfortheolympics *gasp* injapansowhybringthemtovancouvercouldnttheycomeupwithsomething *gasp* morenativetovancouversuchasidontknownativemascotsthatdontlookliketheycamefrom *gasp* ajapanesecartoon?)

Whewwwww.

HERE’S WHAT I THINK, VANCOUVER:

My (Actual) Source Pics

Aghhh some were sort of hard to find because I didn’t end up using most of the pictures I took… And then I didn’t save some of them, etc etc. But I finally got them together. Here you go!

Goodbye Photoshop (For now). Illustrator here I come…?

No more comfort zone!

My Final Images

So after lots of hard work and trying to fit everything into my busy schedule, I finally finished my three images!

Hope you guys can guess the ‘theme’ LOL

Second and Third

This is my second attempt at the “Hand = creator” theme I had going on.

However it turned out to be more of a “composition” of images rather than what the project asked for. This is definitely impossible but it’s not something “believable”. You know? I was happy with it for the first 10 minutes but I don’t think I’ll use it…second_photomanip_draft2

So I started something new during class…

third_photmanip_draft copy

This seems more “believable” per se… so what I’ll do is perhaps continue with the “animal friends” theme and show them travelling around a made-up Vancouver or something. The challenge will be to find the same sort of animals/pictures but in different angles? We’ll see what happens…

Who doesn’t like surprises…

The Draft

So after playing around with Photoshop today I managed to whip up something trippy. What do you guys think? What do you think it means?

It’s sort of like dreaming… you just go on about your business sleeping and somehow you end up whipping up weird images but what DO they mean? IF they even have meaning? And why do these images come together the way they do?

Hmm interesting. I might go from here… dreaming = random = meaningfulness? (Is this even a word…)

Grasping Reality

My Source Pics

So it is a bit late but better late than never I always say. I’ve compiled a few pics that might work well together. They may not make the most sense at the moment but I’m sure I’ll whip something up that might turn out to be sort of interesting. We’ll see.

Here’s some pics for now though:

Time to play around with Photoshop now I guess.

My Second Post

So it’s been the second week of school and I’ve been working hard towards my Animation … degree?

I’ve been having lots of fun playing around with Maya and getting lots of reading done so I’ll be mostly talking about my animation work rather than the academics part of it.

Here’s a sample of my work:

The First Class

So today is September 10, 2009 at Emily Carr University. 10:19 AM and I am sitting in Digital Imaging class with a lovely group of people as we type away into our brand new blogs.

And that was a really long sentence.

Awwww
